malayalam mondays

2009-03-02

individually – vekthiparamayittu.
This word falls in a category that I am going to call “need to use.”  This category is for all the words that I understand, have heard a ton of times, and can interpret back into English, but would not think of when I am trying to actually speak in Malayalam.

date – theyathi

Another one that most Malayalees understand in English (“Ethu date-annu vendiyathu?”), but it’s nice to keep handy on the tip of the tongue.

And last, but not least…

“Have you ever worked as a spy?” Chaara panni cheythuttondo?

A lovely question they have on the immigration form… I’ll post some of the funnier ones that I can remember.
